MG- Good point but I agree with clout. Durbin has been solid in the bullpen and with long relief. What is Benson's status anyway, I haven't heard anything?
BTW, all the posters who insist there were no relievers available in the offseason and that PG did the best he could with the bullpen should not that Herges was a FA in the offseason before re-signing with the Rockies.
Again, why the hell is Condrey in a 1-run game?? He should only see time if the team is up 7 runs or down 7 runs! He got damn lucky there with the DP grounder! He better not be out next inning!
That's a big bullet dodged. Manuel ought to have his damn head examined for using Condrey there. I realize that Madson has been less than trustworthy, but still. They ought to seal off that guy behind glass and break only in case of emergency.
Well who would you all like Charlie to use? It's too early for Romero, Gordon may be even worse than Condrey, they probably want to save Durbin for the 7th, Madson's really iffy - I guess the choice is Seanez, who for some reason hasn't seen action since the 15th.
Difference in this game is the bottom of the lineups. The Rockies are getting contributions from their player and the Phils have received nothing from Feliz, Ruiz, or Bruntlett.
Tray: Excellent question re: Seanez. I recall he pitched pretty well. It makes no logical sense to choose Condrey over him in a close game. Is he hurt?
MG - Just like the NLDS where Yorvit was the difference. Those were some nasty pitches to Jenkins from TB. I haven't been paying attention to him, but he seems to be pitching well this season. He's a Philadelphia area guy, yeah?
I was at the game last night and felt much better about having Jenkins in the lineup rather than Taguchi. At least he has some power potential. Saturday's lineup was awful.
Two quick comments then back to studying for finals:
1. Clout I didn't see Buchholz on your list of Phillies pitchers doing well but he's been outstanding. I really wish we had him. (Springfield grad so I'm SUPER biased and didn't like the trade in the first place)
2. Bring back DavThom and get Coste in the starting lineup. I'm sick of watch Ruiz groundout.
Well, Clout and MG, I haven't been posting much in general these days as I'm really busy with work and some other stuff. You'll notice that I also didn't post after Feliz hit the go-ahead home run last night, so I'm being an equal-opportunity hermit for sure. Yes, Feliz is having a bad night tonight. There.
Pat and Chase are having quite the battle this month for NL MVP huh?
Sorry about that clout. Also new game: everytime somebody talks about Feliz when he's at least two players away in the batting order (either direction)... drink. If he's not in the game at all two drinks.
Don't pinch run for a guy that isn't the lead runner with two outs when he's batting .364 with 7 homeruns. Just don't do it. Especially when you're down one and your bench includes T.J. Bohn. There's no excuse for that.
Tray: That's actually true about Feliz. Problem is, his average has been even lower than advertised. It all adds up to an OBP that is exactly the same as his career OBP.
Great numbers pulled up by the Rox announcers: Ruiz is 3-for-4 with the sacks jacked this year. Everyone else: 1-for-20. That's why Chollie kept him in.
Well bap, he's not striking out at an alarming rate, so maybe he's just hitting the ball at people. I mean, isn't it pretty hard to hit .196 when you're only striking out 13% of the time? You have to think his average will go up a decent amount. Now, maybe all this patience is a fluke and he'll get back to hacking soon, that's possible too, but it's a little glimmer of hope.
Rocks announcers did mention that Chooch is the only Phillie who has been able to knock a hit once or twice with the bases loaded this season, so maybe Cholly did have an educated reason behind not pinch hitting there.

clout - Yeah I thought it was funny too. Feliz turns in one of his usual 0fers and not a word from Jack.

Looks sharp with 15 days rest.

Anyone else not wanting to see Condrey come in this close of a game?

Quote of the night.
Rockies announcers: "(The Phillies) have a really good bullpen"
huh??
Posted by: diggitydave | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Cholly thinking last inning,
"Gosh damn it. Now we are only down a run and I am bringing in Condrey. It was just was Condrey time since we were down at least 3."
Posted by: MG | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Oh well, maybe not. May need 20 days rest.
Posted by: curt | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Can I give a shout out to Jason for that awesome purple banner on top of this thread? I get high just looking at it.

Walking the ever selective and speedy Posdenik. Excellent start.
Posted by: MG | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:34 PM
I am with you, RSB. Condrey should not be in this game.
Posted by: Jon | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:35 PM
Do you think the Cholly forget that Condrey was on the team? Dubee told him and I bet Cholly was like "you sure he ain't in Allentown."
Posted by: MG | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:35 PM
nice play, laying on top of podsednik to keep him at second
Posted by: drake | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:36 PM
Is Ruiz nearsighted????? I know he threw a guy out already tonight but how many times is he gonna bounce one to a base!!!???
Posted by: PKS | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:36 PM
I bet Cholly was like "you sure he ain't in Ottawa."
Posted by: curt | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:37 PM
Clout and getting high don't mix.
Posted by: Tray | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:37 PM
A passed ball or wild pitch would be so appropriate right now . . .
Posted by: MG | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:37 PM
Clay wont't get another chance til May
Posted by: curt | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:38 PM
oh lawdy lawdy me, get condrey away from that mound, quickly please!
Posted by: drake | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:38 PM
Tray: I'm gonna peel that banner off and smoke it. Makes it better to take what I'm seeing in this game.

Yippee!

clay "houdini" condrey?
Posted by: drake | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:39 PM
Condrey was just setting up the GIDP
Posted by: Sophist | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:39 PM
This bullpen continues to give out walks at a pretty alarming rate . . . their kryptonite.
Posted by: MG | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:40 PM

Condrey's due up this inning so he's done
Posted by: clout | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:41 PM
Hopefully that was it for the "Clay Condrey" show until sometime early next week unless the Phils are in a blow out.
Posted by: MG | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:41 PM
Condrey living up to his reputation as a pitcher constantly walking a fine line between 12th pitcher and demotion to the minors.
Posted by: J. Weitzel | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:42 PM
Clout: Good.
Posted by: Jon | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:42 PM
No way I can take at least 2 more weeks of Bruntlett.
Posted by: curt | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:42 PM
Diggitydave: Lidge has a 0.00 ERA, Romero also has a 0.00 ERA. To the casual observer, their bullpen isn't too bad.
Posted by: Will | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:42 PM
jenkins for taguchi switch?
Posted by: drake | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:42 PM

romero went two last night, he's probably not available
Posted by: drake | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:44 PM
The more I see Jenkins, the more I'm reminded of Helms.
Posted by: curt | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:45 PM
I think Charlie forgets he has Seanez as an option. After all, they did pick him up after the season started.
Posted by: Jon | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:45 PM
In Condrey's defense, it is hard being sharp when you haven't been used in a week but he didn't do much to inspire much more continued use.
Posted by: MG | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:46 PM
No way I can take five more months of Jenkins.
Posted by: RSB | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:46 PM

The saddest of all possible words, Feliz to Ruiz to Bruntlett.
Posted by: clout | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:50 PM
MG - the black hole is back, bigger and badder than ever before
Posted by: curt | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:51 PM
You know Jenkins only has three RBIs so far? His pattern has been to go 2-4, then hitless for the next two games. They need a little better from him.
Posted by: J. Weitzel | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:51 PM
Seanez has been walking his share of guys too but still a better option than Condrey.
Posted by: MG | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:51 PM
Apparently not, clout, here he is. So wouldn't it have made more sense to go Seanez-Durbin-Gordon for the sixth through eighth innings?
Posted by: Tray | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:52 PM
Jason, yeah, even on that 2 for 4 night, you're generally looking at 2 inconsequential singles.
Posted by: curt | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:54 PM
Utley looking better defensively no question

C'mon Burrell! You're our only hope.
Posted by: NCPhilly81 | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:03 PM
Why do they put in a pinch runner with Howard in front of him? You would think Cholly would get it.
Posted by: PKS | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:04 PM
Why in the world would you pinch hit the go ahead run, behind the tying run on second, in the 8th inning?
Posted by: Sophist | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:05 PM
If this goes to extras we have Bohn instead of Burrell. Yay.

Posted by: brother | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:07 PM
Not to be absurd, but Feliz has been a little more patient of a hitter than advertised.
Posted by: Tray | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:07 PM
Bases are loaded. We might as well consider this inning over.
Posted by: NCPhilly81 | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:07 PM
Gotta use Coste here, right?
Posted by: curt | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:09 PM
Tray: That's actually true about Feliz. Problem is, his average has been even lower than advertised. It all adds up to an OBP that is exactly the same as his career OBP.
Posted by: bay_area_phan | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:09 PM
Isn't this where you pinch-hit with Coste...
Posted by: Tray | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:10 PM

Clout, it's all good, but weird how you don't make any comments after Feliz draws a huge walk, isn't it?
Posted by: Jack | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:11 PM
If the Phils can steal this one, holy cow.
Posted by: J. Weitzel | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Glad to eat my words on Bohn, but Burrell would have scored on that. CHOOCH!!!
Posted by: PKS | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:12 PM
BAP - Yeah and his pitches per appearance is right about near career norms.
Posted by: MG | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Phils' bullpen has now walked 3 batters in 2 innings. You have to think if they walk a guy in the 8th or 9th that it will come back to haunt them.
Posted by: MG | Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:13 PM
