Lookin' for that 1 to nuthin' game tonight; not based on the pitching but on the amazin' effectiveness of both line-ups. Add up the walks and ROEs and I bet they out-number the hits.

(Am I getting cynical or what? I can't wait for the inevitibility of that 162 game season to, like, kick in.)

Surprised by some of my friends who are not listening/watching the game tonight. Still Mets-Phils with 1st place on the line in the NL East.

Making food for this weekend tonight but I will still have the game turned in with the TV muted and the radio broadcast only. I don't want to hear McCarthy yammer on endlessly with his inability to identify an offspeed pitch, small broadcasting mistakes he seems to make, and have him trump his pseudo Philly roots because it is Mets-Phils.

Maybe it is only me but I find Sarge-McCarthy unlistenable to at times (especially for 3 innings) and I am really glad when Wheeler comes back into the booth.

I'm not taking the weekend off, it's the Mets. Win or lose, there should be plenty of laughs.

Not to mention how T-Mac knocks the Mets in the hope of gaining Philly following. He's got a ways to go from his days as a Muts broadcaster.

With any luck, Lopez will be motivated enough to earn the fifth spot in the rotation. Stranger things have happened.

How come the Phillies official web site shows 26 players on the 25 man roster? (I read Tyler Walker was DFA, but he's still there along with Lopez)

Over/under that "former 15-game winner" for Lopez get used tonight in the broadcast - Seven. We are already at 3 in the top of the 1st for the radio broadcast.

Vamanos Rodrigo!

Radio? What's that? Is that where the Belle and Sebastian of the Phillies broadcasters (LA & Franzke) hangout?

good first inning. would like to see lopez get those pitches down int he zone

I'm ready to be fitted for my Lopez jersey.

Jimmy!!! Is he back yet? Too soon to tell, but signs are good that the worm has turned.

When was the last time that JRoll and Vic lead off the top of the 1st inning with back-to-back hits?

Jimmy, Shane, and Jimmy.... wow.

And Chase that should've been...

And Ryan holding up on those pitches, nice.

Werth: STRIKE FIRST. STRIKE HARD. NO MERCY SIR.

Cholly : I can't hear you.

Werth: STRIKE FIRST. STRIKE HARD. NO MERCY!

the crowd noise is so much better on the radio, creaating a superior aural ambience.

Sweep the leg Werth!

Man the Mets' corner OF defense sucks. Nice play Evans.

Dobbs swept the leg, at least.

Please no GIDP Bako, please.

At least Bako turned the lineup over.

Gutsy walking Feliz there. But then Paul Bako (?!?) was next.

Mets just came back from a 3-0 deficit yesterday for the first time this year.

Nice thespian action Dobbsy!

21 pitches for Lopez thus far, nice.

Shane!

So...Bako is our new catcher?

Surprisingly confident. Those p-rods will start falling in off Lopez.
Let's go Mets.

Only 38 pitches so far, pretty good, eh curt?

Werth! What were you saying PS? :)

Chew-Bako with the double! Nice.

Come on Jimmy.

JIMMY!!!! Who's gonna talk trash about him now??

The lead is almost comfortable.

Come now, one game does not end a slump.

Almost. Would be a nice change. Even last Saturday's game didn't feel like a blowout at Toronto... perhaps it was the sun and Canadian beer... but was just worried that the other shoe was about to drop. This game (fingers crossed) feels a little different thus far.

mpn - looks like everyone else has a life. Or are "frontrunners."

Unikruk: Nope, it doesn't. But look at last night's box score.. he was 2-4. And his only out tonight easily could've been a hit.

I vote the latter! Where is clout to give folks sh!t like he did on Father's Day??? :)

Where are the Met trolls tonight???

Still early, baby. Especially the way this Mets lineup rakes.

57 pitches through 4 for Lopez. Nice.

This Wawa commercial reminds me of that How I Met Your Mother episode where sandwich was a euphemism for pot...

This is the Mets' pulse rating in this game:

-------------------------

Front runners should be here, right? We're in front.

POWERADE, POWERADE, POWERADE big man...

Top 4 hitters are 6 for 9. Probably a first this year.

Top 4 hitters that is.

I hope Livan is hungry. He's got some innings to eat.

Top 3 THREE hitters (he types as he pushes the bourbon back).

Curt -- I think we get it.

Where is mikeschmuckt tonight? Probably getting the Ralphie treatment under the Triborough Bridge.

Wow, pretty poor effort from Livan tonight, to say the least.

Vamanos PS

Ugh. That was boneheaded.

Mets announcers ripping Cholly...hey, that's our job.

Vamanos? You just said, "Let's go, PS"

Yeah, would've liked to have seen Mayberry at the plate there.

Ugh, Charlie should've gone for the jugular there... I can see leaving Bako in, but it's not like Dobbs excels with the leather...

Urban Dictionary: vamanos
vamanos - 1 definition - Get outta here, vamo nos (spanish).
www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=vamanos -

it's been too long of a wait for a game like this. even better that it's against the mets. we'll have to wait till lopez faces a healthy team to pass any real judgement, let's face it, the mets have been decimated by injuries and adam eaton could get a quality start against them right now.

I don't go by urban dictionary, buddy. I actually speak Spanish. Thanks, though.

Looking over this roster, Dobbs definitely is the one with "trade bait" written all over him. Cheap, valuable, not essential.

And it's nice to see you tonight, justphantastic. Missed you here over the last three games. Wonder why?

I hope everyone likes Lopez Tonight, because i have the feeling this callup is our mid-season accquistion.

Not saying he's great, saying this what were getting I think

Rodrigo Lopez is looking the next Bastardo.

Hey, PS, you working at the Marlins game again tonight?

curt - Madson looked like the guy on the roster who was cheap and valuable before his recent rough stretch over the past two weeks.

Dobbs is just another veteran bench bat who would likely have minimal trade value at best.

Yes, sir. Trying to stay awake. Gamecasting the Mets game.

Happ obviously too. Reality is that there aren't many cheap, younger players on this MLB roster right now.

Loving the Phillies field caps today.

if we were to go out and get a decent starter, like a chien ming wang or brad penny, do you think myers could have positive value in the pen if he's ready at the end of the season?

PS - no on misses you when you are gone.

Damn, Spitz. Don't hurt my feelings man. I thought we had something special going on here.

@drake You lost me at calling Wang a decent starter.

NCPhilly: Agreed. I liked the navy caps like these last year, too. But these red ones have grown on me... I bought two of them...

NC: he's getting back on track. less than 3 ER his last 4 starts, he's a 2 time 19 game winner, there's gotta be something left there. plus the sinkerball in this park would be great.

Rodrigo Lopez has struck out David Wright twice. More undeniable proof the Mets will win the division.

Yeah, I own a blue cap and the red ones are sweet. I may need to get one.

Guys, Wang isn't going anywhere. The Yanks have absolutely no reason to trade him. His salary means nothing to them. He's worth it to them just to keep Hughes and Aceves in the pen for rotation depth.

PS: Care to explain the causal logic on that one??? Too many mojitos in the south Florida sun???

Lopez ans Bako, a battery for the ages.

MPN: No problem. As bad as things are, and have been for the Mets, they will get equally good at one point before the season is over.

Factor in that the Mets, in essence, will do more damage at the trade deadline than anyone (getting back Reyes and Beltran), I like where we stand.

But please, enjoy tonight. It's not everyday you see Rollins hit two doubles.

PS: About how the 2Ks by The Manscaped One equals Mets division pennant...

Batting Mayberry for Dobbs there would have been the right move, but I'm elated that Cholly finally let him hit against a LHer. He hit into a DP, but the world kept turning.

PS: I am enjoying tonight. We'll get Ibanez back, plus Eyre, and at least another trade, or two, plus Madson and Lidge will (must!) improve, so I think we'll play better ourselves. Hopefully the annual June swoon has left us allowing us to play some better ball. It should be a street fight from here out.

PS - It's hard to be impressed with your predictions of the distance future, given your predictions about this game a few innings ago.

Wow, glad we left Dobbs out there...

Fair point, MPN. Everyone will be getting better. I expect the Braves to get another bat, and the Marlins pitching will keep getting better now that Nolasco is back to his old self.

Pick your poison, Lopez. Tatis or Evans? A pitcher's nightmare.

Just saw a highlight of the game from afar, why no replay on Evans' hit?

Thought it was kind of odd that Bako got the start tonight but it was obvious does what a decent journeyman catcher does - setup & frame pitches well and call a game that stays within the limitations of a guy like Lopez.

Lopez wasn't able to throw on the inside corner all that well tonight but I was impressed by his ability to locate the fastball on the outside corner consistently for a strike. Good movement on it too.

PS: A hiltsener tsung zol er bakumn.

That was a fantastic post. Just fantastic!

It goes without saying that this Mets lineup is pretty depleted. But they're still a major league lineup and, just last night, they pounded Paul Maholm, a decent pitcher. So all in all, this was a solid performance. I doubt very seriously that Carlos Carrasco would have done better.

Highly doubt the Braves acquire another meaningful bat as their payroll is supposedly all but tapped out.

Now the issue is whether our bullpen can hold a 5-run lead. The odds are about 50-50.

MG: Their payroll is always supposedly depleted. They will find an affordable bat, though. Probably something we consider minor, and somewhat out-of-the-box.
