Breaking news: Phils claim RHP Register off waivers

Steven Register, 26, was 0-2 (4.50) in 16 relief appearances with Colorado Springs (AAA, Rockies). He will reportedly be sent to Lehigh Valley.

Register became a 40-man roster casualty Monday when the Rockies needed his spot for Joel Peralta, who was recalled Monday, according to Rotoworld. Register, a former 2004 third-round pick of the Rockies, has appeared in the majors, making 10 bullpen appearances with Colorado in 2008. In six minor league seasons, all in the Colorado organization, he’s 23-36 with a 4.49 ERA and has been used exclusively in relief since 2007. He was drafted by the Mets in the 2007 Rule 5 draft after leading the minor leagues with 37 saves, but he wasn’t kept. He should be considered a longshot to help the Phillies in any way.

Yeah, if anything this move just adds some depth to the farm system it seems. I am not counting on Register to be a factor in the bullpen with the Pillies, that's for sure.

I always liked Abreu but frankly he missed his calling by refusing the leadoff position. If the Phils or Yanks could have gotten him to be a leadoff batter they would have had more wins and he would be a today a bonafide candidate.
