While the Phils were snowed out, it was an eye-opening night in balmy Clearwater, where right-hander Austin Hyatt struck out 14 and posted his FSL-leading sixth win over eight one-hit innings. A look at who's hot and who's not among starters on the farm.
Up: Austin Hyatt, RHP, Clearwater: A 15th round pick in 2009, Hyatt, who will turn 24 later this month, looks like he's ready to make the jump to Reading. The University of Alabama product mastered the New York-Penn league in his professional debut and finished '09 in Lakewood. The right-hander wields a big fastball with good control of his secondary pitches. For Clearwater, Hyatt is 6-1 with a 1.90 ERA and 53/12 K/BB ratio in 42 2-3 innings. He was rated as the Phillies' 25th best prospect by Phuture Phillies prior to the season.
Up: Nicholas Hernandez, LHP, Lakewood: Another 2009 draftee, the 21-year-old lefty has been strong and consistent all season, going 2-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 44/7 K/BB ratio in 7 starts (48 innings). A 12th round pick from the University of Tennessee, here's another unheralded arm putting himself on the map in his first full season. According to an interview done with PhoulBallz.com, he'll throw a four-seamer and two-seamer, a change-up, an infrequent curve and a still-developing slider.
Up: Trevor May, RHP, Clearwater: Many consider the 6-5, 215-pound righty the cream of the Phillies' pitching crop now that Kyle Drabek is no longer in the system and he's continued to show why with a strong early showing in the Florida State League, going 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 39/12 K/BB ratio in 24 innings. Drafted out of high school in 2008, May deals a low-90s fastball and has plenty of time to hone his secondary pitches. A native of Kelso, Washington, he's arguably the most important piece as the Phillies look for ways to replenish the rotation two or three years down the line.
Down: Phillippe Aumont, RHP, Reading: Big Canadian is 1-2 with a 6.08 ERA and hideously bad 19/22 K/BB ratio in six starts. Walked eight in his last start.
Down: Joe Savery, LHP, Lehigh Valley: The former first-round pick has been a total bust and doesn't look like anything more than a run-of-the-mill minor league pitcher at this stage, going 0-2 with a 5.00 ERA and 16/12 K/BB ratio in 27 innings. Hittable, doesn't miss bats and doesn't throw strikes. Toss him a first baseman's glove.
Down: Brody Colvin, RHP, Lakewood: The Phillies gave Colvin a $900,000 signing bonus in ‘09 so he wouldn't go to LSU. The 19-year-old, highly sought-after right-hander may be biting off more than he can chew in the Sally League, going 2-4 with a 7.31 ERA and 21/14 K/BB ratio in six starts. His last start was encouraging. One of the highest ceilings of any player in the system, continued improvement should come.
Later, we’ll look at some relievers.
So...has this not been mentioned yet?

Thought it would be bigger news on here. Did I miss it?

I was hoping for better news about Brody, I was excited that the Phillies had drafted him.

ZT: Way to soon to get down on him. It's really nothing.
