Big deal. Frankly even got as much coverage because there are essentially so few non-stories that actually on the diamond. Only so much mileage you can squeeze out of the actual games and thrilling issues like 'Will D. Young make the last roster spot?' or 'Will Mayberry ever learn to hit an offspeed pitch?'

Jack, what argument? TTI and I have both agreed that there are affects of aging, and that there are age related injuries. I also believe that recovery times are slower for older athletes.

My point to you was that you keep bringing the same point up over and over again, just worded differently. We get it, OK?

But since you seem to think the Phillies injuries were all age-related, answer these questions:

1) Utley's injury when he was hit by Lannan: Was it age related, that is, if he was 22 years old would his bone have been broken or not been broken?

2) His hip injury and subsequent surgery: This seems likely to be age-related, as it could be the result of wear and tear from sharp lateral movements and Utley's all-out style. Still, J.C. Ramirez seems to have had a similar injury/surgery at the age of 22. So, in your opinion was the injury to Utley age-related? (Personally, in Utley's case I think it highly likely.)

3) Utley's thumb injury: Was it age related, that is, if Utley was 22 years old, would he have sustained it sliding into the bag, or would it not have occured due to his young age?

4) Howard's ankle injury: Did you see the play? If Howard had been 22 years old and caught his spikes like that trying to get back to a base, would he have bounced up injury free?

I'm really interested in your view on these, because you seem to be so well informed, and so very, very right about things here all the time.

I don't think the Phils are dirty in the classic sense, but the Nats aren't the first to call them dirty-Colorado did as well. Maybe they have more of a reputation than we think. Do I care? No.

Is anybody else worried about the Mets? MLB had to loan them 25 million to keep going. I was devastated when Minaya and Jerry Manuel were let go, but the Wilpons must retain control of the franchise. What a sad turn of events it would be if someone competent were to take over the reins. Can we start some kind of a fund to help them out? Maybe have a beef and beer or something? What does everyone think? I'm truly worried here.

I have 0 medical education, but I bet there are plenty of studies that prove flexiblity deteriates with age.

I don't see what's so difficult to comprehend about what awh and TTI are saying here. They are arguing that while it is entirely true that age heightens injury risk, the injuries suffered last year by Polanco, Howard and Utley were all injuries that can't possibly be proven to be age-related. There's no one in the world that can prove Polanco's elbow would have healed up faster if he were five years younger. No one.

The issue here is with certain posters that have a hard-line opinion that the team is too old. That's a valid opinion to have. But when you start using every little injury to try to bolster that point, it just looks like you're trying really hard to win an argument instead of actually looking objectively at the situation.

It reminds me of last year when certain people were touting Atlanta as a juggernaut and would lecture every poster here after every Braves late-inning victory as if the win had proven their point.

I've yet to hear about how someone's hamstring got pulled when the clock struck 12:01am and they officially became 35 years old.

I'm one your/tti/awh's side - that othesr are making too big of a deal about the injuries, but your arguments are pointless and irrelevant. Of course Polanco's injury was a result of a wild pitch, Jack isn't claiming that a calendar with his 34th birthday circled hit him in the elbow at 90mph.

Ask a doctor - "what would be your diagnosis of a human being being hit with a baseball on the elbow at 90mph." Guess what his first 2-3 question would be? I bet "How old is the person being hit?" is one of them.

That isn't the websites problem. It's Apple, iPad's won't play Flash I believe and that is why the videos don't work.

That's what I'm thinking NEPP. This is a bad development. Fortunately, Fred Wilpon is practically best friends with Bud Selig, so I guess we can expect major league baseball to keep propping them up. Got to love Bud. Won't allow the Dodgers to accept a 200 million dollar loan from Fox (I understand why), but has no trouble helping out the Wilpons. Sounds a little like Bud is trying to choose who can and can't own a franchise. In theory I agree with him about the Dodgers. I'm sure they would like the McCort's to just go away. But it looks to me like he has an agenda and will probably be in for some criticism for it.

Of course he is...its probably his #1 job as Commissioner. MLB is a closed Monopoly that doesn't accept outsiders into their club. Why do you think Jeff Loria got another club after the Expos fiasco or John Henry and the BoSox? Or why they told Mark Cuban "Not no but HELL NO" on several ocasions. They dont want controversy, they dont want anyone rocking the boat. They accepted Steinbrenner because he brought a TON of money into the game and made them all rich but he also toed the line on important issues enough of the time.

On Durbin: I wish him luck but I'm not upset to see him gone. I'm happy to go into teh season with a little bit of cash and with a couple bullpen spots going to younger guys that need to break in anyway in low pressure roles.
